Huang Wu, vice-chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, underlined the economic ties between Chile and Guangdong. "Under the framework of the China-Chile free trade agreement, autonomous vehicles and electric buses manufactured by BYD, a major Chinese automaker based in Guangdong, have been making waves, contributing to China's 13-year streak as Chile's largest trading partner."
According to Huang, Chinese companies also play a significant role in Chile's power transmission market. "Among them, Guangdong’s China Southern Power Grid is one of the most active participants. In addition, Huawei has been operating in Chile for two decades and has established three retail centers in the country."
Chilean Consul General in Guangzhou César Gamboa Alarcón noted the meeting between Chinese and Chilean heads of state in Bangkok in 2022, which highlighted cultural exchanges between the two countries. "Its objective is simple yet profound: to better understand each other," he said.
Alarcón elaborated that the reason why the consulate general chose the Guangzhou Cultural Center as the venue for the National Day reception is to manifest their ambition to further strengthen the cultural ties between China and Chile.
The reception gathered around 200 guests, including Chilean nationals, foreign diplomats in Guangzhou, as well as representatives from cultural and business sectors and media organizations.
