Guangzhou Port opens 11 RCEP routes in 2022 H1

As of today, Guangzhou Port Group has launched 154 foreign trade container liner routes, 127 among which connect with the Belt and Road countries. 13 new foreign trade liner routes were launched in the first half of the year, including 11 to the RCEP countries, according to a CCTV report.

Located in the China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) Nansha Area, Nansha Port Area of Guangzhou Port is an important hub for international transportation. The statistics show that the area saw 16.5 percent year-on-year growth in container throughput in H1, which effectively facilitates the foreign trade business.

According to the Guangzhou Port Group, three major alliances of global container liners including 2M, Ocean, and THE Alliance, have settled in Nansha port. They have strengthened cooperation with foreign trade and shipping companies to expand the supply of goods and increase foreign trade liner routes since the RCEP officially came into effect in January 2022.

Shen Jiayu, senior staff member of Nansha container terminal phase I and II of Guangzhou Port, explained that 368 vessels were run between Nansha and other RCEP countries in H1, up 35 percent compared with last year. 65 vessels were run for RCEP routes in June alone, up 92 percent year on year.

Zheng Haibin, deputy GM of an international freight agency in Guangzhou, said, “We saw the growth of our business with RCEP members double last year, electronic and garment products."

Dai Huanqiu, senior staff of a biotechnology company in Shenzhen, added, "the growth of our export volume doubled this year, especially in the Southeast Asian market. The trade volume with Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, and Myanmar all grew by more than 100 percent. Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Cambodia also grew by more than 40 percent."
