Guangzhou Cross-Border E-Commerce Fair unveils new initiatives for global buy and global sell

The China (Guangzhou) Cross-Border E-Commerce Fair, in conjunction with the RCEP Members Cross-Border E-Commerce Cooperation Conference, commenced on August 16.

At the conference, five initiatives were announced in order to facilitate the development of industry clusters, focusing on enhancing service quality, establishing brand awareness, promoting technological innovation, strengthening industry self-discipline, and deepening international cooperation.

The Cross-Border E-Commerce Guidelines for RCEP Member Countries were also issued to further facilitate international cooperation in the industry. The Guidelines provide a multi-dimensional and comprehensive portrayal of the e-commerce market characteristics of each RCEP member country, including aspects such as e-commerce development, social media usage, popular product categories, logistics networks, payment systems, and focal points of trade policies. It serves as a key for businesses to access the RCEP market.

During the fair, cross-border e-commerce companies, platforms, pilot zones, industry practitioners, and experts gather to explore advanced technologies, cooperation opportunities, and new development modes.

Suraya Ahmad Pauzi, Consul General of Malaysia in Guangzhou, sees the e-commerce chapter within the RCEP framework as a unique feature that offers opportunities for member countries to collaborate, exchange ideas, and share information, thereby fostering the growth of the e-commerce industry. She noted that Guangdong accounts for nearly half of the bilateral trade volume, emphasizing the importance of the Guangdong market due to its traditional role as a manufacturing hub.

Froilan Emil Pamintuan, Commercial Consul of the Philippines in Guangzhou, expressed delight at the robust e-commerce exchange between their country and Guangdong, highlighting the significant role of micro, small, and medium enterprises (SMEs), which account for approximately 99% of their economy. The fair provides a chance for these SMEs to further engage in e-commerce exchange and facilitate cooperation between the Philippines and Guangdong.

Enterprises participating in the fair noted that a decade of cross-border e-commerce development has shown a consistent annual increase, indicating the strength and vitality of trade. Guangdong's unparalleled market information, comprehensive logistics, and intellectual property services have created an environment conducive to cross-border e-commerce.

Industry belts, such as lighting and small household appliances from Zhongshan, have been empowered through cross-border e-commerce trade. Liu Gang, founder of the Zhongshan Lighting Factory Cross-border Spot Alliance, emphasized the important role of cross-border e-commerce as a new sales channel for industry belts.

The fair provides a platform for the exchange of best practices, strategies, and technological advancements, which will propel the Guangdong cross-border e-commerce industry to new heights and facilitate the dual circulation within and outside the nation.
