Guangdong braces for a week of chilly weather and possible snow

Gripping cold weather, which has swept across major sections of China, is forecast to influence Guangdong in the afternoon of December 15, bringing a sharp temperature drop of 9-13℃ accompanied by gale force winds and light rain, according to the Guangdong Meteorological Observatory.

With new cold air flowing in, the minimum temperatures are likely to fall on the morning of December 21 and 22, when Guangzhou may see a low of 5℃.

On the daytime of December 15, Qingyuan, Shaoguan, Heyuan, and north Zhaoqing will be cloudy to overcast with light rain. Other regions will see cloudy skies with overcast spells.

The cold snap is expected to affect Guangzhou in the early hours of Saturday morning and southern coastal areas in the morning of that day.

From the evening of December 15 to 16, north Guangdong and the north-central Pearl River Delta will be overcast with light to moderate and even heavy rain. There will be localized light rain, sleet, and possible freezing rain in the high-chill mountainous areas. The lows are projected to range between 4℃ and 7℃ in northern Guangdong, 12℃ and 15℃ in southern areas, and 8℃ and 11℃ in the remaining regions.

On December 17, the southern coastal areas will experience scattered light rain and overcast skies. The lows are forecast to hover around 3-6℃ in northern Guangdong, 10-13℃ in southern areas, and 7-9℃ in the remaining regions.
