Organized by China Southern Power Grid (CSG), the International Digital Energy Expo 2023 (IDEE) kicked off in Shenzhen on June 29.
407 leading domestic and foreign enterprises engaged in digital energy were present at the four-day event, providing the latest energy solutions.
“We see solar photovoltaics and winds set to lead the largest annual increase in renewable capacity ever this year. The International Energy Agency’s (IEA) projections indicate that China is expected to account for more than 50 percent of global renewable power capacity additions in both 2023 and 2024, and this will deliver great benefits towards decarbonization,” Vida Rozite, the 3DEN (Digital Demand-Driven Electricity Networks) Program Lead in the IEA’s Energy Efficiency Division based in Paris, remarked in her keynote speech titled Unlocking Smart Grid Opportunities in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies.
It is the first time that Marcio Szechtman, CIGRE Technical Committee Chairman, has been to Shenzhen. “The city is modern, and I enjoy it very much,” he said.
He works for Eletrobras, which has recently been through a huge transformation. He noted, “Now, we are focusing on how we can achieve growth with innovation and with technology-based solutions. CSG and our companies in Brazil have lots of common points, so we need to explore these possibilities for transmission and innovation under the umbrella of the energy transition.”
He was deeply impressed when visiting the substation and the experimental energy center, commenting, “I’m going to report back to my company that many of my colleagues should visit here and learn about your experience of integrating installations with society.”
At the booth of China Southern Power Grid Energy Storage Co., Ltd, the simulation platform of a hydropower plant based on immersive VR technology enables technicians to enter the hydropower plant virtually. It is not subject to covertness and limitation of equipment in previous training and can let staff follow instructions to do training and drills.
Shenzhen is one of the first cities in China to develop the new energy industry. There are nearly 7,000 companies engaged in energy storage in this city, with a number of major achievements made in this field in recent years.
