"On November 5, Guangzhou reported 1,325 new local confirmed cases, among which 9 cases were detected at the community level while the others were detected during quarantine and screening in high-risk areas." Zhang Yi, deputy director of the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission, said at the conference.

Haizhu District added 1,253 new local cases on November 5. Most new cases were detected in high-risk areas in the Kanglu and Lujiang Villages of Fengyang subdistrict (凤阳街康鹭片区). There are new cases added in Dangtang, Nanzhou subdistrict, and Longtan of Huazhou subdistrict (南洲街大塘片区、华洲街龙潭片区) with the risk of community transmission. The number of new cases in Kecun of Chigang subdistrict and Guitian of Jianghai subdistrict (赤岗街客村片区、江海街桂田片区) showed an apparent downward trend.

Zhang Zhoubin, the spokesman of Guangzhou CDC, said, "The number of new infections in Haizhu District reached a new high because of the fast transmission speed and strong stealth of Omicron variant strains. The virus was easy to cause aerosol transmission under the environmental conditions of dense buildings and narrow roadways. The high population density also provides the right environment for the virus to spread quickly."

The vast majority of new infections were found in high-risk areas and quarantine hotels, which shows the significance of screening crucial populations in high-risk areas.

Zhang Zhoubin said, "Another reason for Haizhu's outbreak is some people in the controlled area went out without permission, which is a high-risk behavior of epidemic spreading." He called on people to stop risky behaviors and keep social distance.

In terms of public transportation, on November 6, Haizhu District provided normal MTR and bus services from 6 am to 9 am. The municipal transportation department will organize various modes of transportation, such as bus-dedicated lines, taxis, online car-hailing, and shared bikes.

All metro and tram stations in Haizhu district, Jiangxia Station (江夏站) Exit A and B on Line 2 in Baiyun District, Dashadong Station (大沙东站) Exit A on Line 5 in Huangpu district, Xiajiao Station (厦滘站) on Line 3 in Panyu District and Luoxi Station (洛溪站) on Line 2 are still suspended. However, all transfer stations of the metro network retain internal transfer function.

In terms of express deliveries, Haizhu District has 2,411 express outlets (including 1,738 Fengchao cabinets) with about 6,800 employees. The daily delivery capacity of express mail is about 1.5 million. Affected by epidemic prevention and control, the current daily delivery capacity is about 900,000.

Haizhu District issued Notice No. 7 on the evening of November 4, and tomorrow (November 7)will be a workday. Fu Xiaochu, executive deputy head of Haizhu District, said residents better reduce going out and working at home.

The epidemic situation in the Songzhou subdistrict and Tangjing subdistrict (松洲街、棠景街) in Baiyun District has stabilized. The original cluster in Huangshi subdistrict (黄石街) has not reported any new cases for several days. Sporadic outbreaks are still occurring in Tongde subdistrict, Renhe Town, Helong subdistrict, Yuncheng subdistrict, and Xinshi subdistrict (同德街、人和镇、贺龙街、云城街、新市街), with the risk of community transmission. The epidemic is recurrent and unstable.

Dashi subdistrict and Luopu subdistrict (大石街和洛浦街)in Panyu District have new cases reported. There is a risk of community transmission. Panyu District has designated a control area and investigated the affected sites.

Shenzhen reports 1+1 new local cases
