Highlights of Turkish Food Festival with Blue Sky Rescue Team in Guangzhou

The Turkish Food Festival lasted one week in China from May 21-27. It highlighted the food of Hatay province, which is registered in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Hatay was one of the harder-hit areas during the earthquakes in Türkiye earlier this year.

"Blue Sky Rescue Team was quite instrumental in reaching out to Türkiye immediately. Today, foods have been presented to them with all our warm hearts and thankfulness," said Kurtuluş Aykan, Consul General of Türkiye in Guangzhou.

He recalled the moment when there were hundreds of Blue Sky Rescue Team members coming out of the airport. "I remember I hugged most of them and there were many tears going down."

To his surprise, Aykan met one of the members who he hugged at that time during the lunch. "We saw each other. Then we hugged again in the same way this time. It was quite emotional for us."

"Today, we prepared a set of Turkish cuisine that we chose from the Hatay region, " Ahmet Sungur, Executive Chef of Sultan Restaurant, told GDToday on May 27.

He introduced the menu included pepper bread, kisir (fine bulgur salad), hummus, tepsi kebab (oven baked kebap) and künefe dessert (kadayif dessert with cheese). "I was pleased to host the Blue Sky Rescue Team that went to help Türkiye during the earthquake and once again l thank them."

"It came to my mind that when we went to a site for earthquake relief, the local people gave us food and water," said Li Zongchao, member of Guangdong Blue Sky Rescue Team.

He felt that the lunch was so well prepared and treated as a manifestation of the friendship between the two countries. "Almost four months have passed since the earthquake relief in February. They still remember us, and l really appreciate that."
