Meilong High-Speed Railway to reduce Guangzhou-Meizhou travel time to 90 mins

The travel time between Guangzhou/Shenzhen and Meizhou will be reduced to 90 minutes when the Meizhou-Longchuan (Meilong) High-Speed Railway is put into operation this year.

The Meilong High-Speed Railway (HSR), starting from Meizhou West Station where it will connect with the Meizhou-Shantou High-Speed Railway, passes through Mexian, Xingning, and Wuhua in Meizhou, and Longchuan in Heyuan. It will also link up with the Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway at Longchuan West Station.

The 95.6 kilometer-long railway is a double-track high-speed rail, with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour and a bridge-tunnel ratio of 82.72%.

The primary construction work of the first and second sections of Meilong HSR has been completed, and the signal engineering's inaugural component has successfully passed assessment and acceptance. These advancements lay the groundwork for the full operation of the Meilong HSR, which is expected to meet the conditions for opening later in 2024.

Spanning across Guangdong's Meixian District (梅县区) and Xingning City (兴宁市), the first and second sections of Meilong HSR cover a total length of 26.312 kilometers and involve four key engineering projects, including the Yewu Viaduct (叶屋特大桥), Hegongtang Tunnel (何公塘隧道), Maogongzhai Tunnel (毛公寨隧道), and Meixingting Tunnel (梅兴亭隧道).

The signal and command system serves as the "brain and central nervous system" of high-speed railway, which is very important to ensure the safe and efficient operation of trains. The inaugural component of the signal engineering for the Meilong Railway has also passed assessment and acceptance, officially establishing the technical standards and construction processes for the entire signal engineering system.

The construction of the front end of the entire line commenced in July 2020. At present, the construction of bridges, tunnes and roadbeds has been completed, while track-laying, electrification, station building, and related infrastructure projects are making progress rapidly.
