Guangdong Governor meets foreign consular corps in Guangzhou

“I appreciate all the strong support for the reform and development in Guangdong Province from the consulates general in Guangzhou,” Wang Weizhong, Governor of the Guangdong Government, stated at the meeting with the consular corps in Guangzhou on March 16th.

Wang shared insights into Guangdong's economic and social development and introduced the government’s primary task of boosting high-quality development. He highlighted the growth of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), pilot reforms in Shenzhen and major platforms, including Hengqin, Qianhai and Nansha.

“Guangdong will ensure the fundamental role of the manufacturing industry. We will also focus on rural area revitalization, green development, technological innovation, and coordinated development between urban and rural areas. We will also develop a market-oriented and law-based international business environment which is equal to both domestic and foreign investors,” said Wang.

Wang also expressed the hope that consulates general in Guangzhou would continue to promote concrete cooperation and friendly exchanges between Guangdong and their respective countries in business, technology, industry, culture, education and tourism.

“You are all welcome to join the upcoming 133rd Canton Fair and the 2023 Global Investment Promotion Conference for the GBA to explore more investment and business opportunities,” Wang added.

Mr. Ebolo Emmanuel, the dean of the consular corps and Consul General of the Republic of Congo in Guangzhou, said that the consular corps would further promote friendly exchanges between their own countries and Guangdong, continue to strengthen cooperation in various fields and seize the opportunities from the GBA’s development.

Representing the Oceania group, the Consul General of New Zealand in Guangzhou, Rachel Louise Crump, emphasized the key role Guangdong played in their substantial economic relationship with China, which is the largest trading partner for both New Zealand and Australia. “Approximately 23 percent of China’s exports to New Zealand come from Guangdong. This province is also a valued partner with Australian research institutes, including in green energy.”

Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Guangzhou, Pak Ben Perkasa Drajat, considered that deeper cooperation with the province of Guangdong, especially in the context of the GBA, would yield more prosperous benefits for economies from all sides and more fulfilling dividends among peoples.
