GD adds 14 new hospitals using HK, Macao registered drugs and medical devices

On February 22, 2023, the Health Commission of Guangdong Province announced the second batch of designated medical institutions approved to use clinically urgently needed drugs that have been marketed in Hong Kong and Macao, as well as medical devices used by public hospitals in Hong Kong and Macao, and with advanced clinical applications.

These hospitals include 14 medical institutions such as the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, Nansha Hospital of Guangzhou First People's Hospital, Clifford Hospital, and so on.

The Work Plan for Regulatory Innovation and Development of Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was issued in November 2020.

In August 2021, the Health Commission of Guangdong Province announced the first batch of five designated medical institutions on the Chinese mainland, including pilot hospitals and healthcare institutions at or above Grade II that are wholly-owned, joint venture or cooperative with Hong Kong and Macao.

The second batch of 14 designated healthcare institutions are located in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan and Dongguan and include several public Grade III hospitals (Top Grade).
