French-Chinese family celebrates daughter’s birthday with an art tour in Mid-Autumn Festival in Guangdong

At the last day of the Mid-Autumn Festival cultural event in Guangzhou on September 17, Mr. Guernet Thierry and his family went to the Bai'etan Greater Bay Area Art Center to savor the art atmosphere of Guangdong.

At the tour of the Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, Guernet Thierry tried to fabricate Guangdong-style incenses and played the guqin, a seven-string Chinese musical instrument.

What impressed him most was the masterpiece “GBA with one heart”.

Using buffalo bones as raw materials, which weigh 13 tonnes, artists carve out the most representative natural and cultural landscapes of 11 cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Landscapes include Zhenhai Tower in Guangzhou, Golden Bauhinia Square in Hong Kong SAR, Ruins of St. Paul’s in Macao SAR, Qianhai International Conference Center in Shenzhen, The Zhuhai Grand Theatre and other Bay Area landmarks.

These organically integrate with natural scenery such as mountains, rivers, flowers, birds, and trees.

Notably, on the top of the work, a mammoth ivory ball hangs high, with its 31-layer internal structure.

“That was absolutely amazing,” he told GDToday, “something incredible”.

Mr. Thierry then added that this is a fantastic place to go with his family to spend time and learn about the culture.

By coincidence, Mid-Autumn Festival this year was also his daughter’s birthday. Mr. Thierry received an artwork with the Chinese character “福” and shared the auspicious moment facing the camera.

“I like this one very much, also with the meaning of the word. For our family, we have a special meaning because it's the birthday of my daughter. This is the luck that the child and the full moon. So best wishes to everybody,” he sent his wishes to the audience.

Also, he highlighted the mixed culture of his family. “My wife is Chinese. I am French. Our daughter is both. So we mixed the both culture and this is I would say we take the best of both,” he added.

His daughter Guernet Celine also visited the art museum in the Bai'etan Greater Bay Area Art Center and was astonished by the delicate paintings and sculptures there.

At lunch, Celine was surprised again by receiving a banquet with a birthday cake.

The girl told GDToday that she had a wonderful day in the Mid-Autumn Festival and wanted to have a cell phone as a gift.
