Typhoon Trami approaches South China Sea, bringing heavy rain to Southwestern Guangdong

According to the China Meteorological Administration, Typhoon Trami, the 20th typhoon of the year, is expected to enter the eastern part of the South China Sea tonight (October 25th). From the night of October 24th to the 28th, southwestern Guangdong and other regions will experience heavy to torrential rainfall.

Guangdong's provincical Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters activated the Grade IV emergency response for wind prevention at 12 noon on October 25th.

At 5 p.m. on October 24th, the center of Typhoon Trami (tropical storm level) was located near the western coast of Luzon Island in the Philippines, at a latitude of 17.0 degrees north and a longitude of 120.2 degrees east. The maximum wind speed near the center was 23 meters per second (9-level winds), with the lowest atmospheric pressure at 990 hectopascals.

It is predicted that Trami will move westward at a speed of 10-15 kilometers per hour and enter the eastern part of the South China Sea tonight. Its intensity will gradually increase, potentially reaching the level of a severe tropical storm or typhoon (wind speeds of 28-33 meters per second, or 10-12 levels).

On the 28th, the typhoon will change direction to the east, with its intensity gradually weakening. At 6 p.m. on October 24th, the China Meteorological Administration issued a continued typhoon blue warning.

From 8 p.m. on October 25th to 8 p.m. on the 26th, the southwestern part of the East China Sea, the Taiwan Strait, the northern and central parts of the South China Sea, the Qiongzhou Strait, and the Beibu Gulf will experience winds of 7-9 levels, with gusts of 10-11 levels. Some areas in the central part of the South China Sea may see winds of 10-12 levels, with gusts of 13-14 levels.

Affected by Typhoon Trami, from the night of October 24th to the 28th, southern Jiangsu, Shanghai, southeastern Anhui, central and eastern Zhejiang, northeastern Fujian, Taiwan Island, southwestern Guangdong, southeastern Guangxi, Hainan Island, and Sansha will experience heavy to torrential rainfall.
