Macron praises Guangdong Jiaoling Art Field

Prior to his state visit to China, French President Emmanuel Macron visited the Paris studio of Chinese-French artists Wang Du and An Xiaotong. He spoke highly of An Xiaotong's artwork, created for the Guangdong Jiaoling Art Field, and signed the event poster.

Launched on September 27 this year, the Guangdong Jiaoling Art Field features over 40 installations across the rural fields of Jiaoling, a county recognized as a "world longevity village". Under the theme of "All Things in Their Natural State", it highlights a profound form of site-specificity. The 27 participating artists immersed themselves in the local environment, using materials such as bamboo and river stones to create works that seem to grow from the land, existing in symbiosis with the local landscape and Hakka culture.

Artist An Xiaotong noted that this initiative goes beyond a traditional exhibition, representing instead a model of artistic co-creation that calls on artists "to work with the land".

Chief Advisor Fan Bo believes that artists here assume the roles of translators and catalysts, describing the process as a "two-way stimulation": the rural setting provides a new context for art, while art, in turn, awakens the cultural confidence of the village, inspiring residents to shift from onlookers to participants. Through this distinctive approach, the Guangdong Jiaoling Art Field explores a sustainable path for mutual enrichment between art and the countryside.
