After nearly two years of construction, the Phase 1 station building of the new Shantou Railway Station officially opened on September 20, becoming the largest high-speed rail hub in eastern Guangdong.

The former Shantou Railway Station, in use since 1995, with only a 2,400-square-meter waiting room and a daily passenger flow of 25,000, could no longer meet the growing demand and created a need for improved passenger facilities.

The newly built station has 11 platforms and 24 tracks, with a station building covering 100,000 square meters. It is designed to accommodate up to 8,000 people per hour.

In its initial phase of operation, the new transport hub is expected to handle an average of 32,000 passengers daily and will offer 74 daily high-speed train services to popular destinations, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Wuhan, Zhangjiajie, and Guilin.

The new building is a multi-level structure, with the waiting hall on the top, the platform level in the middle, and the exit level on the bottom. To enhance the passenger experience, the waiting room is equipped with 2,944 seats, including 248 charging-enabled seats near the service desk, and 240 accessible seats for passengers with special needs.
