Recently, SupBio based in Guangzhou's Huangpu District officially released its independently researched and developed Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 (HIV-1) DNA Detection Kit (PCR-Fluorescent Probe Method), making it the world's first approved DNA load detection reagent.
This approved HIV-1 DNA load detection kit has surpassed the world-class industry's technical bottleneck where traditional PCR methods struggled to simultaneously ensure technical sensitivity and specificity.

HIV generally exists in two forms: as RNA in plasma and primarily as DNA within cells. If HIV is compared to a grass plant, the HIV RNA would resemble the visible leaves above ground, readily observable and accessible.
Conversely, HIV DNA represents the roots beneath the surface. Current HIV RNA tests focus on detecting these above-ground leaves, while HIV DNA load detection delves deeper, measuring the roots, thereby providing insights into the virus's persistence and risk of future complications.
Wu Caihong, Chief Technology Officer of SupBio, emphasized that detecting and quantifying these "roots" is a crucial indicator for predicting immune recovery, incomplete immune reconstitution, AIDS-related complications, and even drug resistance.
Wu explained, "HIV-1 RNA load can only assess the effectiveness of the herbicide, whereas HIV-1 DNA load, by evaluating the decay or growth of the roots, provides a more accurate prediction of HIV disease progression and treatment outcomes."

"Increasing sensitivity in detection can lead to 'false positives,' while enhancing specificity can compromise sensitivity. The core competitiveness of our product lies in our proprietary disruptive micro-precision detection technology, which seamlessly combines high sensitivity and specificity, effectively eliminating the issues of 'false negatives' and 'false positives,'" said Zhu Tuofu, Founder and Chairman of SupBio.
Furthermore, the HIV-1 DNA load detection kit boasts potential advantages in accuracy, convenience, and application scenarios. It achieves simultaneous dual quantification of HIV-1 DNA and cell counts within a single detection reaction, significantly reducing experimental complexity and enhancing detection precision.
In terms of application, the kit is compatible with any PCR instrument and system, operable on open-access molecular detection equipment. This means that upon receiving the product, CDCs or hospitals' general nucleic acid testing laboratories can use and test it without the need for specialized equipment, making it more convenient and user-friendly.
In recent years, Huangpu District has vigorously developed its biomedical industry, attracting over 4,000 biomedical enterprises. The district has introduced a series of policies to promote high-quality development in the biomedical industry, supporting the research and development of innovative drugs and medical devices, and striving to occupy the strategic high ground in the biomedical industry competition.
