The exhibition "Wish You Were Here" was unveiled on July 8 at the Sea World Culture and Arts Center in Shenzhen, in the framework of the China-Italy Year of Culture and Tourism 2022.
The exhibition, which lasts from July 9 to October 16, displays some of the most representative works of the famous Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. It features iconic pieces such as Comedian, the much-talked-about banana taped to the wall (2019) and the grim squirrel by Bidibidobidiboo (1996), along with new site-specific works, including hyper-realistic sculptures and installations.

The title of the exhibition was inspired by an expression commonly found on postcards, according to Maurizio Cattelan. In a period of pandemic and protracted separations, Cattelan invites visitors to consider the works in the light of the desire and need for human connection summarized in the phrase "Wish You Were Here".
In the typical lively and stimulating way of the artist, Francesco Bonami, curator of the exhibition, invites the public to be actively involved in art, rather than simply enjoy it.
Cao Saixian, Director General of Shenzhen Foreign Affairs Office, attended the opening ceremony and said this exhibition contributes to cultural exchanges between the two countries and enhances the understanding and friendship between our two peoples.
