The visiting delegation consisted of 32 members from 14 British universities and research institutions. The exchange focused on talent training and technological innovation. Professor Xiao Haipeng, Executive Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University and President of FAH-SYSU, highlighted the ongoing cooperation with various British universities. The discussions explored further collaboration in the joint training of PhD and postdoctoral researchers.

"Internationalization is a distinctive feature of world-class medical centers and a crucial strategic measure for achieving high-quality development,” said Prof. Xiao.” The UK has a mature and advanced system in medical education and talent training, from which we have much to learn and adapt."

The Nansha Division of FAH-SYSU serves as a vital platform for international exchange and cooperation. On the afternoon of March 26, the delegation visited the Nansha Division to tour the Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Center, International Robotic Surgery Training Center (IRSTC), Institute of Precision Medicine, and International Healthcare Center.

SYSU's medical school and affiliated hospitals have achieved fruitful results in cooperation with leading British universities such as Oxford University, Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of Birmingham (UoB), University of Warwick, University of Glasgow, and Cardiff University.

“We've been working with FAH-SYSU for over ten years,” Professor Jon Frampton, Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor (China) of UoB told GDToday. “It's a fantastic example of long-term development that yields partnership, friendship, trust, and ultimately great results.”

He added, “We've also worked extensively and will continue to work around primary care and general practice, developing cohort studies with people here based in the hospital, with regard to community medicine and the aging population.”

Rahul Agarwal, Counsellor for Healthcare & Life Sciences of the British Embassy in Beijing, noted that the UK has a mixture of heritage and innovation. "We are exploring how we can use digital technology and more innovative ways of delivering education to look at the future possibility of care delivery," he said.
