The urban eye health index of cities in Guangdong has been released. All 21 cities in Guangdong are above the medium level. Guangzhou is the leading city in the province, with the highest number of ophthalmologists, followed by Zhuhai (99.9 points out of 100) and Shenzhen (94.8 points out of 100). This is due to the relatively high number of ophthalmologists per capita, average park area, and younger populations.

Economic development has led to an increase in urbanization rates and life expectancy, but it has also posed challenges to the eye health of urban residents due to visual issues and environmental changes. To deal with this, the national key laboratory for eye disease prevention and treatment, along with multiple institutions nationwide, initiated urban eye health research on National Eye Care Day in 2023, providing scientific and comprehensive quantitative assessments of urban residents' eye health. The ongoing implementation of this project will help raise public awareness of eye health and promote eye health construction at the urban level.
Nearly 20 ophthalmic experts from various fields, including cataracts, glaucoma, myopia treatment and prevention, and corneal diseases, provided professional eye consultations to about 200 residents at the event.

This year's consultations also featured the 5G smart ophthalmic patrol vehicle, independently developed by ZOC. It offers residents a one-stop eye health check-up experience. Through the 5G medical network, examination results can be instantly uploaded to the mobile eye health platform. It enables remote online imaging interpretation and real-time feedback, allowing residents to enjoy a new type of intelligent remote ophthalmic diagnosis and treatment service right at their doorstep.
