​Guangzhou and Laos' Attapeu sign MoU on cooperation

On December 8, Guangzhou and Attapeu, a province of Laos, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on strengthening cooperation and exchanges, formally establishing a friendly cooperative city-province relationship.

The two sides will promote cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, culture and tourism, education, scientific research and humanities, focusing on agricultural modernization, development of tourism resources, and research on biodiversity conservation.

Up to now, Guangzhou has established friendly city relationships with 105 cities (provinces) of 68 countries, according to the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangzhou Municipality.

In January 2023, Nansha District of Guangzhou signed a MoU on strengthening exchanges and cooperation with Sanamxay District in Attapeu Province. In June 2023, a delegation of Attapeu Province visited the Pearl Modern Urban Agricultural Experimental Park and the Pearl Bay Development and Exhibition Center in Nansha District.

In July 2023, Malaithong Kommasith, Minister of Industry and Commerce of the  Lao People's Democratic Republic, visited Nansha and discussed cooperation projects with Nansha RCEP Cultural, Business and Tourism Innovation Industry Cooperation Park.

Attapeu Province is located in the south of Laos, with an area of 10,320 square kilometers and a population of about 150,000. The primary sectors of its economy include agriculture, processing, tourism, and hydropower. The province is rich in natural resources such as waterfalls, wetlands, and bird reserves.
