As summer vacation begins, museums in Guangdong are experiencing a surge in demand. From July 13, many museums in Guangdong will extend their opening hours. Additionally, walk-in entry and a series of summer events, such as "Museum Nights," will be introduced.
Currently, many museums in Guangdong have adjusted their opening hours for the summer, now opening from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, extended by half an hour from the previous timings. Furthermore, several museums are planning "Museum Nights" during weekends to further extend the evening hours.
To embrace the summer museum fever, the Guangdong Museum has decided to extend the opening hours to 8:30 PM every Friday starting from July 19. In addition, the museum has increased its daily reservation slots from 7,000 to 9,000, and an extra 3,500 reservations will be added for Friday's extended opening hours.
The extended opening hours of some other museums:
Guangzhou Museum (the Zhenhai Tower): 9 AM-8:30 PM, every Friday, July 16 to August 31;
Foshan Ancestral Temple Museum: 8:30 AM-9 pm, every Saturday, July 15 to August 31;
The Memorial Museum of Generalissimo Sun Yat-sen's Mansion: 9 AM-8:30 PM, every Saturday, July 13 to August 31
Apart from the extended opening hours, a recent new policy has requested that A-level tourist attractions in Guangzhou, including many museums and memorials, adopt walk-in entry.
Some of the museums that have announced walk-in entry are the Memorial Museum of Generalissimo Sun Yat-sen's Mansion, Guangdong Museum of Revolutionary History, Guangzhou Museum of Art, Southern Han Mausoleums Museum, and Guangzhou Museum.
Following Guangzhou, museums in other cities have also adopted walk-in entry, such as Jiangmen Museum, Zhongshan Museum, and Zhuhai Museum.
It is important to note that some popular museums still require reservations to control the number of visitors. They include Guangdong Museum, the Nanyue King Museum, the Guangdong Folk Arts Museum, and the Whampoa Military Academy.
For some museums that have multiple sites, such as the Shenzhen Museum, walk-in entry only applies to certain parts of their sites. It is highly recommended to check the notices on the museums' websites or social media channels before visiting.
