The Dashahe Rowing Invitational kicked off on October 26 along the Dasha River Ecological Corridor in Nanshan, Shenzhen. Ten international teams from Australia, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Denmark, France, Germany, New Zealand, and Italy, along with nine Chinese teams from Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macao, engaged in intense competition.
In accordance with the International City Sprint standard, the race distance is 500 meters. All competing teams fall into one of three groups: club teams, corporate teams, or university teams. Along with showing the charm of rowing, it also demonstrates urban features.
After fierce competition, Nereus Rowing Club, HEC Paris Rowing Club, and UMSU ROWING won the women's single sculls championship, runner-up, and third place, respectively. In the women's double sculls, the rankings are Nereus Rowing Club, followed by Danish Students Rowing Club and then the University Sports Club Dresden Rowing. The Nereus Rowing Club gained the gold medal in quadruple sculls.
"The sport looks simple, but it is actually complicated, especially when you have to work with other people to row. It takes time, and we practice two to three hours a day. If you're interested in rowing, it's never too late to start," said Peter, a coach at Mercantile Rowing Club who started rowing 40 years ago.
"The charm of this sport lies in teamwork and dedication. I feel that rowing in the water is like flying. It's exciting! It's a great honor to be here. It's my first visit to China. Shenzhen is so beautiful, and all the people are so nice," said Jakob from Danish Students Rowing Club.
Prior to the event, athletes visited Nantou City, which has a long history and profound cultural heritage. They also went to DJI, where they experienced a wide range of drones with features like RTK, multispectral, thermal, and zoom cameras.
