Medical staff enter Haizhu's controlled areas to help patients undergoing hemodialysis

"Tonight, 4 patients need hemodialysis. Please arrange it as soon as possible!"

On the afternoon of November 11, Yang Yun, a doctor from the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital received an emergent call from the Haizhu District Health Bureau.

She responded immediately, "We'll finish the task!"

Commencing the afternoon of November 11, a hemodialysis health care team consisting of 2 doctors and 6 nurses from the hospital was established under the arrangement of Guangzhou COVID-19 Prevention and Control Command Center.

With 5 portable hemodialysis machines and some protective supplies, the team came to the Longfeng Subdistrict Community Health Service Center, which is a designated hospital for key close contacts. They provide medical treatment for the uremic patients in the areas under COVID-19 control.

The team members quickly adapted themselves to the special conditions for treatment and conducted hemodialysis for 4 patients overnight. As patients are aging residents with weak health conditions and relatively lower immunity, medical workers conducted precise and tailored treatment according to their different illnesses.

One patient with the surname Zheng said she was relieved after the team arrived.

"A year consists of 52 weeks, and these patients need to receive 4-hour hemodialysis for 2 to 3 times every week. This is the daily life of patients receiving hemodialysis," said Yang Yun. She regarded it as their duty to provide timely treatment for patients in the controlled areas.

As of midnight of November 13, the team has helped 15 patients with hemodialysis.
