Expats experience Chinese art in Guangyue International Community

“I was playing the game of Go for the first time and it's a nice experience. I'd like to explore more,” said Ahmad Amin, an international student who took part in a cultural exchange activity at Guangzhou's Guangyue International Community on July 30.

The activity was organized by Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Office and Guangyue International Community, aiming to provide an experience of traditional Chinese culture for expats.

The Guqin (a seven-stringed plucked music instrument), Go (a board game), calligraphy, and traditional Chinese painting were introduced at the event, which are considered the four essential arts of the Chinese scholars in antiquity.

Ahmad Amin as well as other participants had a chance to play Guqin, Go and try Chinese painting with teacher's guide. Ahmad indicated that he always wanted a chance to blend in the local community and the activity helped him to better understand Chinese culture.

According to the activity organizer, Guangyue International Community of Liede Street in Tianhe District is the first batch of pilot international community in Guangzhou, which provides foreign residents a wide range of public services.

Guangyue International Community has set up a series of service center for expats, including Chinese and foreign residents cultural exchange center, foreign volunteer service center, foreign talent service center.
