Entrepreneurship, work-life balance...HK, Macao students discover opportunities in Nansha with GDToday Salon

"During the event, we found that Nansha provides a work-life balance, and preferential policies covering food, clothing, housing, and transportation. Everyone is very encouraged by the job choices in Nansha!"

Chan Tung is a second-year graduate student at Jinan University from Hong Kong. On August 5, following the "GDToday Salon: the Night of Nansha" event, Chan marveled at the great changes of Nansha in just a few years.

China recently issued the Master Plan of Guangzhou Nansha on Deepening Comprehensive Cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao with Global Perspective. For entrepreneurs and young students, this is the right time for them to ride the tide, embrace a number of favorable policies, and integrate their personal growth with this land of opportunities.

This is the first station of "GDToday Salon" events, which has attracted dozens of students from Hong Kong and Macao. The series are being hosted by Newsgd.com & GDToday, aiming to build a communication platform for Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao people as well as expats, and promote mutual understanding.

Learning more about Nansha development

During the event, students visited Zhaoke Pharmaceutical (Guangzhou) Limited, a Hong Kong-invested company in Nansha, learning more about Nansha's development, especially in high technology and R&D facilities.

Talking about where to go for self-growth, Lau Lit-fui, President of Zhaoke (Guangzhou) Ophthalmology Pharmaceutical Limited, shared his story: "I was born and raised in Hong Kong. I had been to the United States, and had also worked in Shanghai as well as other places. When we decide where to go, it depends on the opportunities, and it is important for young people to open their eyes and not to be limited to where they grow up. At present, Nansha has a promising future, and allows young people to go out of their comfort zones and seize opportunities."

Aspiring young people achieve personal career development in Nansha, and have happiness in their daily lives. After an immersive visit to the Nansha Planning Exhibition Hall, Hong Kong youth Hung Yat-hei shared his story with the students. He came here after graduating from Tsinghua University and stayed in a city in between before working in Nansha Industrial Park Administration Bureau.

"Nansha has a vast and comfortable living space, where mountains, fields, and rivers enhance each other's beauty. The comfortable and pleasant environment enables us to enjoy a slow life after busy work," Hung said.

Showing willingness of working in Nansha

As the night falls, employees and entrepreneurs gathered at Chuangxiangwan TIMETABLE Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Youth Innovation Base and shared their life stories about Nansha with students.

After graduation from Peking University, Macao youth Liu Yanxin started to work at the Nansha Industrial Park Administration Bureau. His post is to attract investment. As one of the first batches of Hong Kong and Macao talent to serve in Guangzhou's public service institutions, the newcomer was assigned one important task, to plan the construction of the entire Dagang Advanced Manufacturing Base. The base covers 8 square kilometers, 28 settled and planning enterprises and a gross social investment of about 26 billion RMB.

"You may not have any concept of 8 square kilometers, however, if I say that 8 square kilometers are near to a quarter of Macao's size, you'll understand how great the responsibility is," Liu said with a laugh, adding "Nansha has great trust in Hong Kong and Macao youths, and provides a big platform for us."

Two adorable Chinese dolls, dressing up with traditional Chinese clothes and hair decoration, attracted the students' attention. "We provide semi-finished clothes materials for the dolls so you can experience the fun of making clothes for the dolls," said Lee Pak-hang, Founder of Guangzhou Bojing Culture Communication Co., Ltd.

Lee has set up his business in Nansha since 2021. He was impressed by the abundant resources he could link with here, which is important for the start-up business. "We have connected with a Nansha local enterprise who can produce gambier Canton gauze and thus made an innovative improvement for our products."

"Over the past three years, the Chuangxiangwan TIMETABLE Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Youth Innovation Base has incubated 40 Hong Kong and Macao youth innovation and entrepreneurship projects in Guangzhou and Hong Kong, with social financing amounting to over 100 million USD, and a team of nearly 1,000 people," said Wang Lu, Head of TIMETABLE.

He added that there are now more than 40 enterprises and projects based in TIMETABLE, of which Hong Kong and Macao enterprises account for nearly 50%, covering private equity funds, science and technology, wine trading, and so on.

After the sharing part, students talked with them during dinner time and try to learn more about their experiences in Nansha. "I came to Nansha several years ago. Now great changes have taken place here. I will keep eyes on Nansha's development," said Chan. She expressed her willingness of working in Nansha.
