Typhoon Chaba to affect Guangdong till July 4; train services suspended

Moving at a speed of 15 km/h, Typhoon Chaba is forecast to make landfall in coastal areas between Dianbai District of Maoming and Leizhou City of Zhanjiang on Saturday afternoon.

The first to land in China this year, the rough storms will rip through the west of Guangdong from July 2 to 4. As of 11:00 a.m., a total of 92 typhoon warnings have been issued in the province with preventive efforts by local authorities underway.

According to the provincial emergency management department, by 20:00 of July 1, 77,900 people have been transferred to safe places, 53,728 fishing boats called back to harbour, 82 seaside scenic spots and beaches closed.

Meanwhile, all trains from Guangzhou South Railway Station to Zhanjiang were temporarily suspended on July 2. Passengers who have purchased the canceled trains can apply for a full refund within 30 days at the ticket booth window, 12306.com and 12306 APP.
