Scorching heat continues to engulf Guangdong, temperatures above 40℃

Baked under super-heated air, some places in Guangdong have recorded temperatures higher than 40℃ these days. "We are just like Cha Siu in a steamer and almost cooked." "Our shoes are going to melt when walking outside." Reads comments on the Internet joking about the hot weather.

On July 25, Guangzhou issued the first red alert of the year for hot weather in the districts of Yuexiu, Haizhu, Liwan, Tianhe, Huangpu, Baiyun and Huadu, indicting temperatures of 40℃ or higher.

By 16:30 Tuesday, Guangdong issued a total of 31 red alerts for hot weather mainly in Guangzhou, Foshan, and the east but some in the north of the province.

Outdoor activities are urged to be minimized during the day and outdoor open-air work is required to be halted if the temperature reaches more than 40℃. Related provincial and local government departments have been bracing for any emergency caused by the extreme heatwave such as urban fires, forest fires and drowning accidents.

According to Guangdong Meteorological Observatory, Guangdong will continue to be impacted by a strong subtropical high in the next three days.

From July 27 to 29, most of the province will be sunny to cloudy with scattered (thunder) showers in the east of Guangdong. The highs in the southern coastal area will be 32 ℃ to 34 ℃, 35 ℃ to 38 ℃ in other areas. Certain places in north Guangdong are expected to have a high of 39 ℃ or more.

After July 29, the subtropical high will weaken. There will be localized thundershowers, but hot weather will prevail.
