Frequent convective weather with heavy rain expected from April 17

Frequent occurrences of strong convective activities and heavy rainfall are anticipated in Guangdong over the next few days, according to the provincial meteorological service.

On April 17 and 18, the province is forecasted to experience moderate to heavy thunderstorms, with localized areas receiving heavy to torrential rain. Subsequently, on April 19 and 20, Shaoguan, Qingyuan, and the northern region of the Pearl River Delta are predicted to be hit by heavy to torrential rain, with certain regions enduring rainstorms.

During these rain events, some areas may also experience strong thunder and lightning, gale-force winds, short-term intense rainfall, and small hailstones. The heavy rainfall is expected to last for a long time and the rainfall area is highly overlapped with the previous two rounds.

Detailed forecasts are as follows:

On April 18, northern Guangdong and the northern part of the Pearl River Delta are forecasted to receive heavy rain with localized heavy to torrential rain. The rest of the province will have cloudy to overcast skies with thunderstorms and localized heavy rain. Daytime high temperatures are expected to range from 26℃ to 29℃ in central and northern Guangdong, 32℃ to 35℃ in the Leizhou Peninsula, and 30℃ to 32℃ in the remaining areas.

On April 19, Shaoguan, Qingyuan, and the northern part of the Pearl River Delta are predicted to witness heavy to torrential rain with localized rainstorms. The remaining areas will have cloudy to overcast skies with thunderstorms, locally heavy or torrential. Daytime high temperatures are forecasted to hover around 33℃ to 36℃ in the Leizhou Peninsula, and 27℃ to 30℃ in the remaining areas.

On April 20, Shaoguan, Qingyuan, and the northern part of the Pearl River Delta are expected to experience heavy rain with localized rainstorms. The central and southern parts of the Pearl River Delta and the western coast of Guangdong will also see heavy rain with localized torrential rain. The remaining areas will have cloudy to overcast skies with moderate thunderstorms. Daytime high temperatures are predicted to range from 33℃ to 36℃ in the Leizhou Peninsula, 25℃ to 28℃ in northern Guangdong and the Pearl River Delta, and 28℃ to 32℃ in the remaining areas.

Looking ahead to April 21 and 22, Guangdong is still likely to encounter heavy rain, with localized areas anticipating torrential downpours.
