Discover the beauty of nature in these journals

In the era of no high-definition camera lens, scientists often use nature journals, a form of painting that combines art and science, to document animals and plants. It is an effective and engaging way to teach observation, curiosity, and creative thinking.

On September 16, a cohort of 50 winners of the 2022 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Nature Observational Journal Competition was unveiled. The competition aimed to arouse the masses to record and share wonderful moments of wetlands in the form of nature journals or short videos, so as to spread the beauty of nature. In addition to traditional paintings, 30 short natural videos were also first selected this year.

Let's take a look at some winning journals!

Aquatic Canna (水生美人蕉)

Egret (白鹭)

Damselfly (豆娘)

Heron (苍鹭)

Black-tailed Paracercion (黑背尾蟌)

The competition was hosted by the Forestry Administration of Guangdong Province. With the theme "Walking into wetlands and recording the beauty of ecology", it was opened to adults and teenagers in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao on July 9 to collect natural observational journals. Participants were encouraged to walk into wetlands, collect and organize their observations, questions and explanations on the pages of a notebook using words, pictures, and numbers.

As of August 31, over 700 entries had been received. Many young contestants from Hong Kong and Macao have also contributed to the event on the Internet. All winning works will be displayed at the 2022 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Nature Education Carnival.
