Over 98% citizens feel safe in Guangdong

"Guangdong has cracked down on more than 1400 criminal gangs from 2018-2020," said Zhang Qinghong, Deputy Secretary of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs, Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China at a press organized by Guangdong's Information Office on April 22.

Zhuang indicated that criminal cases in the region have dropped 40.6%, compared with the situation in 2013. 

Furthermore, Zhanjiang's Leizhou, Jieyang's Huilai and Shanwei's Lufeng had successfully gotten rid of the label of key areas of national campaign against drug problem in the past three years.

"Over 98% citizens feel safe in this region, which was brought to light in a survey organized by the Central Government,” Zhang added. “6.19% up compared with the result in 2017."

To fight against the increasing cases in telecommunication network fraud in recent years, Guangdong police launched more than 150 special operations in the last five years, including 19 campaigns outside the border.

"Guangdong police have detained more than 108 thousand suspects in telecommunication network fraud over the past five years," said Lin Weixiong, Deputy Director General of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department. "In 2021, both fraud cases and telecommunications fraud cases have decreased year-on year for the first time."

Lin introduced that Guangdong police is building up an alerting system with related departments for tackling telecommunication network fraud, including closing the websites and telephone numbers involved in fraud. According to Lin, the  system has protected more than twenty million citizens from telecommunication network fraud, while over 200 billion RMB has been saved.

In addition, Guangdong police is cracking down on money laundering through e-RMB, according to Lin. 

Lin reminds that residents should protect their privacy, do not click on unfamiliar links, do not transfer money to strangers, do not answer unknown calls, and pay attention to the anti-fraud reminders.
