Dragon boat racing is one of the most traditional and significant activities of the Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on June 3 this year, the fifth day of the fifth month on the Chinese lunar calendar.

Chepi Dragon Boat Scene (车陂龙舟景)

Chepi Dragon Boat Scene is a custom of the Dragon Boat Festival in Chebei Village, Tianhe District, Guangzhou. Each year on the third day of the fifth lunar month on the Chinese lunar calendar, Chebei village observe its "Zhaojing Day" (“招景”日), a day when the village started to invite dragon boat teams from neighboring villages to race in Chebei.

More about the intangible cultural heritage lists

The lists highlight projects with Lingnan cultural characteristics, with emphasis on folklore, opera and traditional skills. For example, items such as Chaozhou jade carving, the legend of Zhang Jiuling, and Cantonese tea drinking customs are listed.

Up to now, the province has a total of 4 items on the Representative List of Human Intangible Cultural Heritage, 165 representative items of national intangible cultural heritage and 816 representative items on the provincial intangible cultural heritage list.

Guangzhou is an important birthplace of Lingnan culture. This time, 12 projects declared by the city, including Guangzhou Hakka hill song, Guangzhou lion dance, Guangzhou embroidery and Chebei Dragon Boat race, were also included in the list.

At present, Guangzhou has 95 projects included in the provincial representative list, continuing to rank first in the province. In recent years, the city has introduced policies and regulations, built intangible cultural heritage platforms such as historical community, workstations and bases, as well as provided financial support to strengthen the protection of intangible cultural heritage.
