The WHO has recently classified a new COVID subvariant EG.5 as a variant of interest due to rising infection cases around the world.
According to the Foshan Center for Disease Control and Prevention, EG.5 is gradually becoming the most dominant strain circulating in the city.

Foshan CDC’s epidemiological surveillance program for indigenous COVID mutations shows that the EG.5 lineage is gradually taking over among the prevalent strains. The damage caused by the EG.5 mutant strain is controllable, and currently, residents do not need to worry about the impact of a new wave of epidemics that EG.5 may bring. But people should pay attention to personal hygiene in daily life.
Comprehensive assessment shows that the COVID situation in Foshan features sporadic cases, and it will continue to remain stable for a period of time in the future.
High-risk groups should always pay attention to protect themselves from possible infection, such as the elderly aged above 65, especially those over 80, patients with hypertension, coronary heart disease, or with other underlying medical conditions, and immunocompromised individuals. Once symptoms of cold and fever appear, it's suggested to get a COVID test and seek medical attention in a timely manner.
