At the 14th China International Animation and Cartoon Copyright Protection and Trade Expo, Italy has been featured as the guest country, presenting a mix of local animation and Mediterranean-themed events. Pietro Zingoni, Media Director of the Italian animation studio T-Rex Digimation, spoke with GDToday about his first visit to Dongguan and his experiences at the event.
Zingoni shared that this was his first trip to China. Representing Cartoon Italia—a group of over 40 Italian animation companies—he highlighted their aim to connect with the Chinese market and learn more about the growing toy industry in Dongguan. During the exhibition, he explored the local toy scene, including learning how to package a Dongguan roasted goose plush toy and discovering traditional Chinese medicine through plush dolls. These activities were both enjoyable and informative.
He had a positive impression of Dongguan, noting that the city reflects the influence of Chinese culture while also changing the view that toys are just for children. In Dongguan, toys and collectibles play a role in education and cultural exchange.
The animation producer commended Dongguan's animation and toy industry, recognizing its importance to the local community and government. He observed a strong enthusiasm for advancing the industry, as shown by the accomplishments displayed at the exhibition. He was also impressed by the innovation and technology present in Dongguan's toy sector.
When discussing Dongguan's plans to expand its toy industry abroad, Zingoni noted the diversity and production capabilities of the local market. He also pointed to an interesting phenomenon that there seems to be significant untapped potential among consumers aged 20 to 35.
Zingoni would recommend Dongguan to his friends, for business opportunities or travel. He appreciates the hospitality of the Chinese people and believes that experiencing different cultures can lead to valuable insights and a better understanding of global diversity.
