"COVID-free communities" in GZ will resume regular operation

Guangzhou has launched a campaign across controlled areas to create "COVID-free communities (villages/ residential communities)" with no new infections in 5 consecutive days each area will resume regular operation, announced Zhang Yi, Deputy Director General and Spokesperson of the Guangzhou Health Commission, at the press conference on the city's fight against COVID-19 on November 26.

Conditions to certify the COVID-free communities (villages/ residential communities) are as follows. There must be dedicated staff on duty 24-7 at checkpoints responsible for checking temperature, code scanning, nucleic acid certificate, and personnel registration in the community. Communities should have the capacity to provide quarantine monitoring, PCR testing, medical service, and life-saving assurances. Residents living in COVID-free communities (villages/ residential communities) should follow the request for epidemic prevention and avoid gathering.

"On November 25, Guangzhou reported 7,419 new local COVID-19 infections, of which 101 were detected outside the controlled areas. The remaining infections were detected during quarantine, in high-risk areas, or among key people under closed-loop management," said Zhang Yi, deputy head of the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission, at the press conference.

Haizhu District reported 6,996 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, concentrated in Kangle and Lujiang villiage, Datang, and Longtan areas. Zijinli area of Jianghai subdistrict and Houjiao South back street of Nanzhou subdistrict see rapid growth in the number of new infections.

The epidemic situation in Panyu District spread from north to south. Luopu, Nancun, Zhongcun, and Hualong detected a small cluster of cases.

Local epidemic clusters occurred in Tianhe District, mainly concentrated in Yuancun and Changxing subdistricts, involving densely populated areas. Tianhe District remains the high risk of continued epidemic, and the situation is still uncertain.

The situation in the Kuangquan subdistrict, Yuexiu District, has been under control. Still, Dengfeng subdistrict occurred a cluster of cases, and Huanghuagang subdistrict reported serial abnormal mixed pipe testing results.

Cases with uncertain source found outside the controlled areas in Baiyun District have declined. Still, Junhe subdistrict detected a cluster of cases with the risk of rebounding.

The trend of increasing cases in the Zengcheng and Conghua districts has slowed down. Huadu, Huangpu, and Liwan Districts were relatively stable with sporadic outbreaks and the number of new cases fluctuated at a low level. Still, the risk of importation continued to exist.
