Amid the dual peak of May Day travel and the Canton Fair, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is preparing for a surge in passenger traffic, particularly from international and transfer travelers. Border inspection authorities expect daily passenger flows to reach 50,000, with peaks exceeding 53,000.

To ensure smooth operations, the airport has boosted staffing and maintenance efforts across key areas such as gate assignments, baggage handling, security checks, and check-in services. Contingency plans for adverse weather are in place, and additional security lanes will open during peak times. Team check-in counters and baggage-free desks will also be added to reduce wait times.

In response to growing transit demand, the airport has fully upgraded 11 transfer lounges, offering amenities such as free meals. New transfer perks include hands-free baggage, guided connections, free storage, and discounted accommodation. The airport is also expanding through-check services for international passengers, streamlining customs procedures, and reducing the need for luggage reclaims.

The airport will officially launch its dedicated pet terminal on May 1, as a national first. Operated with professional partners, the facility combines pet boarding, grooming, and travel assistance. The initial phase can accommodate around 30 cats and dogs, offering smart monitoring and custom meal plans. Travelers can book services in advance and monitor their pets remotely during travel.
