Guangdong Museum plans to cancel the walk-in entry policy from August 8 to ensure the personal safety of the visitors and the safety of cultural relics, according to a notice released by the museum's official website on August 7.
The museum has previously announced that from now until August 31, it would allow visitors to enter the museum from 9:00 to 9:30 by registering with their ID on-site without a prior reservation on regular opening days, while during other hours, the museum still requires reservations for entry.
As more tourists travel during summer vacations, museums have become a big hit for family trips. According to statistics from the official ticketing system of Guangdong Museum, the daily booking demand for admission has reached more than 200,000 visitors, far exceeding its maximum capacity of the venue.
To accommodate the increasing visitor demand during the summer holidays, from August 8 to 31, the opening hours of Guangdong Museum will be extended by half an hour from the original 18:00 to 18:30 (the entrance will be closed at 17:30). In addition, 1,000 new free reservations will be added from 17:00-17:30. The first batch of additional places can be booked at 22:00 on August 7 in the official mini program named "广东省博物馆预约 (Pinyin: guang dong sheng bo wu guan yu yue)".
