"SCU and SCAU already have a sound basis for cooperation. We must seize the opportunity to deepen collaboration between the two universities in agricultural science and education," Nasser S.A. Mandour, president of SCU, stressed. "Next step SCU will sign a memorandum of understanding with SCAU on cooperation in crop breeding, plant protection, smart agriculture, and other areas."

Nasser came to China 21 years ago. After studying Chinese at Beijing Language and Culture University for a year, he brought his family to Guangzhou in 2001 to study for his doctorate at SCAU.

"I have spent the happiest three years in SCAU," Nasser said.

The major, Agricultural Insect and Pest Control, where Nasser studies is the first national key subject of SCAU. Under the guidance of professor Ren Shunxiang, a well-known entomologist in China, Nasser carried out biological control research targeting the major domestic invasive and poisonous pest - Bemisia tabaci.

College life in SCAU is still green in Nasser’s memory. "Although Chinese is difficult to learn, it does not prevent me from integrating into Chinese culture. China is like my second hometown." Nasser said he likes to visit local markets, try Chinese food and participate in gatherings of Chinese friends with his family.

In 2004, Nasser graduated from SCAU and returned to Egypt. He served as the deputy dean and dean of the School of Agriculture of SCU, and founded the Egypt-China Institute of Applied Technology.

In 2021, Nasser was appointed president of SCU by the Ministry of Higher Education of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

2022 marks the 66th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt. In recent years, people-to-people and cultural exchanges have played an increasingly important role in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" between the two countries.

"I have an excellent experience with Chinese culture," said Nasser. "We will maintain an open attitude and continue to enhance our cooperation and exchanges with Chinese partners, especially with SCAU."
