4372.8 meters! Immersed tube section of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link nears completion

As of July 24th, 28 immersed tubes have been embedded in the undersea tunnel of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, with the total length over 4,372.8 meters.

Here's a glimpse of the construction site:

The two newly embedded tubes were E24 on the east side and E19 on the west side, both of which are 165 meters long and weigh about 80,000 tons. (Photo provided to Newsgd.com)

To protect the tubes from hydraulic pressure and deep-sea corrosion over the years, the construction team developed the world's first intelligent concreting and casting equipment and system. (Photo provided to Newsgd.com)

Currently, the concreting and casting work of each tube has been shortened to 29 days, setting new records for the construction of large undersea immersed tube tunnels. (Photo provided to Newsgd.com)

The undersea tunnel of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is 6,845 meters long, including a 5,035-meter-long immersed tube section, which consists of 32 immersed tubes and one final closure joint. (Photo provided to Newsgd.com)

There are ninetubes in the east, 23 tubes and one final joint in the west. The construction of threemore tubes in the west will be completed by the end of this year.(Photo provided to Newsgd.com)

Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is expected to open to traffic in 2024. At present, the tunnel structure construction is underway in the east artificial island and the main body of ramp tunnel is being built in the west artificial island. Zhongshan Bridge has completed deck construction and now is entering a new construction phase of the two-way eight-lane road surface and its ancillary facilities. And Lingdingyang Bridge is expected to finish the building of the main cable strands by the end of this year.
