This opening concert was directed by Long Yu, a distinguish conductor and music director of the GSO, with violist Diyang Mei and erhu player Lu Yiwen as soloists. Diyang Mei received the position of first principal viola at the Berliner Philharmoniker in February, which is the first time for a Chinese musician to be given a position with this orchestra.

During the concert, these musicians performed two new repertoires dedicated to the 65th anniversary titled "Metropolis" and "La joie de la souffrance". According to the GSO, the two new works are also highlights of its national tour from September 10 to 17.

Furthermore, the GSO also launched an album "Symphonic Chin: Selections from the GSO's Commissioned Works in Celebration of its 65th Anniversary" on the same day, featuring 12 repertoires created by 15 composers such as Krzysztof Eugeniusz Penderecki, Andy Akiho, Zhou Long, and Tan Dun. The album is on tap at GSO's online special music section on QQ Music, presenting several masterpieces for music lovers.
