Guangdong’s Excellent Business Environment boosts trade with UAE

On January 13, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong (CCPIT Guangdong Committee) held a conference to promote Guangdong business environment through an online and offline integrated format in Guangzhou and Dubai as a sub-event of the Guangdong Week of the China Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

The event also attracted officials from foreign Consulates General in Guangzhou, representatives from business associations abroad, as well as presidents of over 10 Guangdong Chambers of Commerce overseas and their member companies. 

“As Guangdong’s largest trade and investment promotion institution, CCPIT Guangdong Committee is committed to promote Guangdong’s foreign economic and trade exchanges, technical and cultural cooperation,” said Fang Lixu, President of CCPIT Guangdong Committee.

By the end of 2020, Guangdong has absorbed nearly $500 billion in foreign investment, accounting for one-fifth of the country's total, and established more than 270,000 foreign-invested enterprises, ranking first in the country.

At present, CCPIT Guangdong Committee has established close ties with more than 400 overseas industrial and commercial organizations, foreign embassies and consulates in Guangzhou. The committee has signed long-term cooperation agreements with 160 overseas counterpart institutions and business associations, and established 19 Sino-foreign bilateral entrepreneur councils cooperation mechanisms. It has promoted to set up 28 Guangdong’s overseas economic and trade representative offices and 32 overseas Guangdong chambers of commerce.

Saed Alawadi, CEO of Dubai Industries & Exports, commented that Guangdong boasts a superior investment and business environment, as well as a pioneering spirit of innovation. It is an important trade and investment window between the UAE and China. He is very much looking forward to a new level of economic and trade cooperation between Guangdong and the UAE.

More than 4,000 Chinese enterprises have invested and established businesses in the UAE. The UAE has become China's largest export destination and second largest trading partner in the Arab region. Major bilateral economic and trade cooperation projects have been solidly advanced.

“With major foreign-funded projects, enhancing intellectual property protection, and safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises, Guangdong has become one of the regions with the highest degree of marketization, rule of law and internationalization in China.” Ye Hua, an inspector from the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, said at the conference.

From January to November 2021, Guangdong’s total import and export volume of registered 7.47 trillion yuan, accounting for nearly a quarter of the country, an increase of 17.4% year-on-year, and an average growth of 7.8% in the two years, ranking first in the country for 35 consecutive years.

At the conference, the business environment, key industries, policies and measures of Foshan were introduced, and principals of Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin introduced the location, strategic positioning, key industries, development, and preferential policies of Hengqin. Representative from UAE-invested enterprise Wenchao Group of Dubai shared their investment experience in Guangdong.

As one of the activities with the Guangdong Week of the China Pavilion, Expo 2020 Dubai, the Guangdong venue invited more than 130 representatives and entrepreneurs from Consulates General in Guangzhou, domestic and foreign business associations in Guangzhou, and overseas Guangdong business associations.

At the Dubai venue, more than 80 representatives from the UAE business community, Chinese delegation in UAE and entrepreneurs from the Middle East attended the meeting. More than 500 entrepreneurs participated in the meeting via a online live broadcast.
