“In this pandemic wave, 656 infected cases are over 80 years old, and 302 have not been vaccinated yet. 52.7% of citizens aged over 80 have been vaccinated with the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. According to Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission, vaccination will effectively reduce severe cases and fatalities. People over 60 years old are at risk of severe COVID-19 infection, especially those with pre-existing conditions.
According to Guangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the antibody will form in 14 days after vaccination. After vaccination, the severe case and fatality rate of COVID-19 will reduce by more than 90%. Therefore, Guangzhou CDC strongly advised the elderly to get the vaccination as soon as possible.
Guangzhou has set up 231 COVID-19 vaccination sites with abundant vaccination resources for citizens. Over the past 3 days, more than 10,000 people have been vaccinated. For the elderly, communities have arranged door-to-door service, organized special event and regular on-site revisit services to ensure they get the vaccination.
On December 3, Guangzhou reported 4,581 local COVID-19 cases, among which 71 were found in communities. 10,047 people were discharged from makeshift hospitals, adding the total discharged number to 76,376 since the outbreak of this round of the epidemic.
On December 3, Guangdong reported 1,455 new locally transmitted confirmed cases and 4,785 asymptomatic cases.
