Recently, Tongcheng Travel released the "2024 Summer Tourism Consumption Trends Report" (referred to as the Report), analyzing the hotspots and trends of summer tourism consumption in 2024 based on big data from its platform. According to the travel data, the robust growth of inbound and outbound tourism is a prominent feature of this year's summer travel season, with Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand – collectively known as the "Visa-Free Golden Route" – experiencing the highest overall travel popularity. Cities with significant inbound tourist reception during the summer mainly include Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and other core cities.

Implementing China's unilateral visa-free and transit visa-free policies for relevant countries has fueled foreign tourists' enthusiasm for visiting China, resulting in a notable increase in the number of foreign visitors received by some domestic tourist cities during this year's summer travel season. Data from the Report indicates that tourists entering the Chinese mainland via Hong Kong primarily favor destinations such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Changsha, Nanjing, Chongqing, Chengdu, and Xi'an.
As the summer travel season arrives, the robust demand for inbound tourism has further boosted consumption in hotels and scenic spots in core cities. For example, in the first half of this year, foreign guest bookings for hotels under ELong Hotel Technology Platform brands nearly doubled year-on-year, and it is expected that during the summer, the number of foreign visitors' reservations in hotels in major tourist destinations such as Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Beijing will experience substantial growth.
The Report reveals that since late June, the proportion of family travel on civil aviation and railways has risen rapidly, ushering in the first wave of travel peaks for summer family tours. According to the summer travel booking data from the Tongcheng Travel platform, Beijing, Xi'an, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Qingdao, Suzhou, Guangzhou, and Chongqing are popular destinations for family tours.
The Report also indicates that museums are a significant attraction for summer family tours this year. As of July 5th, the top ten museums with the highest search index on the Tongcheng Travel platform are the Palace Museum, Shaanxi History Museum, Shanghai Museum, Suzhou Museum, Luoyang Museum, Sanxingdui Museum in Guanghan, Nanjing Museum, Guangdong Museum, Chengdu Museum, and Henan Museum.
Strolling through night markets, enjoying night views, and watching performances in the core districts and business circles of popular tourist cities have become new choices for young travelers during the summer. According to Tongcheng Travel data, the most popular cities and districts this summer include Hongyadong in Chongqing, Nanmenkou Food Street in Changsha, Nanluoguxiang in Beijing, Datang Everbright City Pedestrian Street in Xi'an, Xintiandi in Shanghai, Shiquan Street in Suzhou, Confucius Temple in Nanjing, Chunxi Road in Chengdu, Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street in Guangzhou, and Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street in Xiamen.
