A group of coral protectors in Dapeng, Shenzhen 丨National Ecology Day

The blue sky is reflected in the clear water of Shenzhen's Dapeng Bay, attracting tourists with its excellent ecology.

One early morning in August, in the underwater coral reef ecological restoration area not far from Dongchong Pier, Chen Bogui, the Director of the Engineering Production Center at the Shenzhen Institute of Guangdong Ocean University, wears a diving suit and dives 5 meters down to the seabed reef area. He has a special mission on this voyage - to "revisit" the corals planted in October last year.

Coral reefs play a very important role in the ecosystem. They have extremely high productivity. And they are also rich in biodiversity and they are called "the home of marine organisms." Coral reefs only occupy less than 0.2% of the global ocean area, but they nurture nearly a quarter of marine organisms.

As the "rainforest under the sea", coral reefs have the capability of ocean purification. In Dapeng, Shenzhen, planting coral reefs has become a new approach explored by multiple departments in Guangdong Province for alternative ecological restoration.
