Guangdong, UAE tie trade partnership through Guangdong Week of Expo Dubai

On January 11, the Guangdong Week of the China Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai kicked off in Guangzhou, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Guangdong) -United Arab Emirates (UAE) Economic and Trade Exchange conference was successfully held in Guangzhou and Dubai. The conference was held online and offline by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Committee (CCPIT Guangdong Committee).

The event aims to promote the bilateral economic and trade cooperation between Guangdong and the UAE in the post-epidemic era, and build a platform for cooperation and exchange, and expand channels for Guangdong and the UAE enterprises. Government officials, executives from financial institutions, representatives from business associations, entrepreneurs and media representatives from Guangdong and the UAE attended the forum in various innovative ways to explore business opportunities and add new impetus to the economic development of the two places.

Fang Lixu, President of CCPIT Guangdong Committee, commented: “The UAE is an important transit point connecting Asian, African and European markets. And with big ports and airport, it is critical in terms of trade.”

He explained that Chinese products, especially technological products, are very welcome in the UAE. Focusing on the energy fields, the two sides can deepen cooperation in infrastructure, scientific and technological innovation, agricultural science and technology, tourism and aviation. For deepening cooperation between Guangdong and the UAE, Fang proposed strategies to build a regional two-way trade center and forge international business ties in his speech.

China has long maintained the status of the UAEs largest trading partner

According to Rhama Alshamsi, Consul General of the United Arab Emirates in Guangzhou, the relationship between the UAE and China is time-honored and has yielded fruitful outcomes. This year marks the 38th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the UAE and China. In the economic field, China has long maintained the status of the UAE’s largest trading partner. Meanwhile the UAE is China’s largest export market and the largest non-oil trading partner in the Middle East and North Africa.

CCPIT Guangdong Committee signed strategic cooperation agreements with Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and China National Building Material Group FZE respectively. Other Guangdong-UAE government-enterprise cooperation projects were signed at venues of the two places.

As parts of the event, Guangdong - UAE Cooperative Round-table Dialogue, UAE - Guangdong Boutique Products Exhibition launch ceremony, and GBA (Guangdong) - UAE bilateral enterprises "one-to-one" online business partnering and negotiation were also held on the same day.

Yaser Almatheel, representative of Nello Technology (shenzhen) Co., Ltd, attended the one-to-one partnering event. He felt excited, saying “most companies are looking for events like this because they can hardly meet face-to face. We met a potential customer today. They decided to send buyers to our factory the other day and have product training from us.”

Yaser said his company mainly focuses on the European market and maintains good relationship with suppliers in Shenzhen. “The Chinese government takes the pandemic control and its influence on enterprises serious. For example, we can let the UAE companies know more about companies in China and vice versa through today’s online partnering event. The government is helping us through the pandemic, so I believe we can overcome it.”

More than 70 categories of products were introduced at the event, including smart imaging, medical equipment, smart home, new energy products, LED lighting, epidemic prevention products, smart purification equipment, and smart wearable products. 

12 cooperation intentions were reached in the business partnering event focusing on new energy, advanced environmental protection, biomedical health, high-end equipment manufacturing.
