On August 5, China Railway Guangzhou Group reported a surge in passenger traffic, with 2.315 million passenger trips recorded. Among them, Guangdong has seen 1.506 million passenger trips departing and 1.469 million arriving, highlighting a robust demand for travel.
In response to the increasing needs of passengers in downtown Guangzhou, China Railway Guangzhou Group has optimized the operation plans of several high-speed trains. More services will now directly connect to Guangzhou Railway Station and Guangzhou East Railway Station, including six overnight high-speed sleeper trains to Beijing West Railway Station that arrive in the morning.

Since the updated train schedules were implemented on June 15, the stations under Guangzhou's jurisdiction—Guangzhou Railway Station, Guangzhou East Railway Station, and Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station—have recorded 6.834 million passenger trips.
Alongside regular passenger trains, Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station has also introduced 22 high-speed services heading north towards cities such as Wuhan and Changsha. The earliest service, G1746, departs for Taicang, Jiangsu Province at 6:38 a.m., while the latest, G6118, leaves for Changsha South Railway Station at 9:02 p.m., offering greater convenience for travelers along these routes.
Notably, in spiteof Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station's
location, an increasing number of travelers
prefer to take intercity trains from Guangzhou Railway Station or
Guangzhou East Railway Station to reach their destinations, making
trips to places including Changsha and Wuhan more accessible.
Each
day, 22 intercity trains run between Guangzhou Railway Station,
Guangzhou East Railway Station, and Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station,
taking approximately 10 to 25 minutes depending on the route, with
departures every 30 minutes to an hour.

For instance, a traveler starting from Tiyu Xilu who is going to take a high-speed train to Changsha would need about 50 minutes via the metro, or around 40 minutes by taxi, potentially longer during peak traffic. Conversely, taking an intercity train from Guangzhou East Railway Station to Baiyun Station requires only about 30 minutes, where passengers can quickly transfer to their respective high-speed trains through convenient transfer.
The Guangzhou-Shenzhen intercity service offers various ticketing options. In addition to purchasing electronic tickets via 12306.cn or its app, passengers can use the Guangzhou-Shenzhen intercitymini-programcodes through WeChat or Alipay, and UnionPay IC cards, allowing for quick entry at both Guangzhou Railway Station and Guangzhou East Railway Station.
Currently, high-speed and intercity train services constitute 50% of operations at Guangzhou Railway Station, which runs 78 bullet trains mainly to destinations such as Beijing, Shenzhen, Changsha, and Shantou. From Friday to Monday nights, overnight sleeper trains to Beijing West Railway Station will also operate. Meanwhile, Guangzhou East Railway Station offers 337 high-speed trains primarily traveling to Shenzhen, Shantou, Ganzhou, Nanchang, Hangzhou, and Xiamen.
The increase in high-speed rail services at Guangzhou Railway Station, Guangzhou East Railway Station, and Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station effectively alleviates the transportation pressure at Guangzhou South Railway Station, further addressing capacity bottlenecks in the city's railway network and providing residentswith more convenient travel options.
