Typhoon Chaba likely to land in western Guangdong this weekend

Typhoon Chaba, the third of the year, is forecast to land in areas between western Guangdong and eastern Hainan Island on July 2 or 3, bringing torrential rains and heavy winds to most parts of Guangdong.

The typhoon was observed 730 kilometers south of Guangzhou at 14 p.m. Thursday. It is tracking north at a speed of 10 to 15 km/h, intensifying gradually.

Guangdong has issued an emergency warning for typhoon at 10 a.m. this morning, preparing preventive measures to ensure the safety of people's lives and property. Ferry services in the Qiongzhou Strait are set to suspend from 8 a.m. of July 1.

Rainfall will start to bucket in the coastal areas of southern Guangdong from June 30.

On July 1, there will be thundershowers to heavy rain, torrential rain in east Guangdong, Pearl River Delta, and west Guangdong. The rest of the province will be sunny with cloudy spells, scattered thundershowers. The highs will be 30℃ to 32℃ in coastal areas and 33℃ to 34℃ in other regions.

On July 2, west Guangdong and the southern Pearl River Delta will see torrential rain to rainstorms, while east Guangdong and the central northern Pearl River Delta will have lighter rainfall.

From July 3 to 4, torrential rain with localized rainstorms is expected for the west of Guangdong and the western Pearl River Delta. The rest of the province will see moderate to heavy rain, localized torrential rain.
