Recently, the 2023 Guangdong Dragon and Lion Dance Championship for College Students kicked off at Zhuhai College of Science and Technology, with a total of 213 teams from 46 universities in Guangdong participating.
This championship is divided into three groups (Group A, Group B, and Group C) with five programs: traditional southern lion dance, group lion dance (southern lion), group drum music for southern lion dance, optional dragon dance, and optional northern lion dance.
After fierce competition, the top three in the team total score are as follows: Guangdong Baiyun University, Guangdong Pharmaceutical University, and Zhuhai College of Science and Technology from Group A; Zhaoqing University, Guangzhou Sports University, and Hanshan Normal University from Group B; Guangdong Construction Polytechnic, Shenzhen Polytechnic University, and Guangdong Polytechnic of Industry and Commerce from Group C.
Dragon dance and lion dance are excellent traditional folk arts in China. Its choreography and cultural themes are highly artistic and entertaining, making it a popular sports activity.
"The contestants have rich imaginations and innovated the theme with Guangdong folk culture, music and modern competitive sports, presenting a visual artistic feast," said Jiang Dai, vice president of Guangdong Provincial Dragon and Lion Sports Association and chief referee of the competition.
