The Communist Party of China (CPC) in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-Level Meeting was held via video link on March 15, with the theme of “Path Towards Modernization: The Responsibility of Political Parties”. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, called for respecting the diversity of civilizations, advocating the common values of humanity, valuing the inheritance and innovation of civilizations, and strengthening international people-to-people exchanges and cooperation.
“President Xi’s speech deepens our research into Chinese modernization. The Chinese path to modernization has great significance for China and a variety of global implications,” Indrananda Abeysekera, President of the Association for Sri Lanka-China Social and Cultural Cooperation (ASLCSSC), who participated in the meeting, told GDToday on March 17.

Fruits of Chinese modernization are universally beneficial
Founded by Abeysekera, ASLCSSC was officially launched in 1997 and is committed to promoting the friendship between China and Sri Lanka. The association has become one of the most active Sri Lanka-China friendship organizations in Sri Lanka.
“Our association has always been concerned about and studied the concepts and theories of China. We study China’s modernization and share the knowledge with our people,” said Abeysekera.
According to Abeysekera, ASLCSSC translates Xi’s speeches on modernization into Sinhala and Tamil, and distributes them. “The speech gave us a clearer understanding of modernization and can support the development of our communities,” he added.
“We would like to do more research on the achievements of Chinese modernization, especially studying China’s achievements in poverty reduction,” he told GDToday. “The association participated in an online training session on poverty eradication in China’s Jiangxi Province a few months ago. We plan to implement a rural revitalization program in Sri Lanka based on China’s experience.”
Chinese modernization lead people to a harmonious world
“Chinese modernization is a distinctly different path from Western modernization,” said Abeysekera. “The modernization of the West has not only created an imbalance of wealth within countries, but also created a global problem of wealth and poverty in the north and south,” Abeysekera elaborated.
He said that Chinese modernization has gone beyond the path of capitalist modernization, and one of the characteristics of Chinese modernization is to achieve common prosperity for all people. “It leads all the people to a harmonious world.”
Abeysekera told GDToday that Sri Lanka faces social problems such as child malnutrition and frequent diseases among the elderly. Studying China’s social security system can provide references for Sri Lanka to plan long-term solutions. “It is clear that the CPC has always worked for the interests of the people in practice.”
