Guangdong animated film Into the Mortal World selected for major int'l animation festivals

The animated feature Into the Mortal World, created by Guangdong-based Winsing Animation, is gaining global attention after being selected for two major international animation festivals. The film has been shortlisted for the Perspectives Competition at the 25th MONSTRA Lisbon Animation Festival in Portugal and will also be screened at the 3rd Wellington Animation Film Festival (WAFF) in New Zealand.

Widely regarded as one of Europe's leading animation festivals, MONSTRA Lisbon will take place from March 12 to 22, 2026. Into the Mortal World is scheduled for screening in Lisbon on March 13 as part of the festival's Perspectives Competition. The lineup features notable international productions, including A Magnificent Life by Oscar-nominated director Sylvain Chomet and the Academy Award–nominated animated film Flow.

The film will also appear in the screening program of WAFF, which runs from March 19 to 22, with its screening planned for March 22. At the festival, it will share the program with acclaimed international titles such as the Oscar-nominated French animated feature Amélie and the Shape of Rain.

Further expanding its international reach, Into the Mortal World has been invited to screen at a Chinese Film Festival in Africa this May, organized by China's National Film Administration, as part of the 2026 China–Africa Year of Cultural Exchange. The screening aims to introduce African audiences to the film's distinctive blend of Eastern aesthetics and traditional Chinese storytelling.

To date, Into the Mortal World has been released theatrically in more than 40 countries and regions, including Singapore, Australia, Russia and New Zealand. The film has also received multiple recognitions, including a nomination for Best Animation at the Golden Rooster Awards and the Gold Award at the Golden Dragon Awards, and was previously selected for the feature film competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Looking ahead, Winsing Animation will present its upcoming animation slate at the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART) this month, highlighting new projects and further expanding the global reach of Chinese animation.
