Completion of Pingshan viaduct marks milestone in Shenzhen-Shanwei West Expressway expansion project

The Shenzhen-Shanwei West Expressway expansion project has reached a significant milestone with the completion and opening of the Pingshan viaduct section. This development signals a major advancement in enhancing transportation connectivity in the region, as all vehicles traveling on both the north and south sides of the Pingshan viaduct have now transitioned from the relief roads available for traffic during construction to the viaduct.

Prior to the expansion project, the Shenzhen-Shanwei West expressway traversed through Pingshan in a ground-level format, causing notable traffic disruptions in the area. Through the concerted efforts of the governments of Shenzhen and Pingshan District, approximately 1.95 kilometers of the expressway between Kengzi East Interchange and Huiyang West Interchange have been transformed from a ground-level format to a viaduct, aiming to improve the north-south traffic connectivity in the area. This initiative also involves the conversion of five municipal roads, including Danzi North Road, Lizhong Road, Xiusha Road, Liaozhong Road, and Ang'er Road, thereby releasing around 13.76 hectares of urban land.

Previously closed due to construction, the Kengzi Interchange ramps (toward the city center and from Shantou to Pingshan) were reopened for traffic before the Chinese New Year.

Moving forward, the Shenzhen-Shanwei West Expressway expansion project will accelerate the progress of relief road removal, old road and bridge renovation, and installation of ancillary facilities, aiming to achieve comprehensive completion of the Pingshan section by the end of September 2024.
