Recently, the Guangzhou South Railway Station to Baiyun Airport segment of the Guangzhou East Ring Intercity Railway reached a significant construction milestone with the successful completion of the longest single-line shield tunnel section - from Dayuan Station to Taihe Station, known as the "Datai section". This section has now achieved full tunnel connectivity.

The Datai section serves as a key engineering control point for the entire line. This section features an up-line tunnel measuring 6,144 meters in length, with an outer diameter of 8.8 meters and an inner diameter of 8 meters. The geological conditions along the route are complex, traversing the typical composite strata of the Pearl River Delta region. The tunnel depth ranges from 12 to 158 meters, with abundant groundwater and high water pressure.
Guangzhou East Ring Intercity Railway is a vital transportation corridor connecting the Pearl River Delta from east to west. The project starts at Guangzhou South Railway Station and passes through various districts including Panyu, Huangpu, Haizhu, Tianhe, and Baiyun before concluding at Zhuliao Station.
Along its 46.7-kilometer route, the railway will include eight stations: Dashi Station, Science Center Station, Pazhou Station, Financial City Station, Smart City Station, Longdong Station, Dayuan Station, and Taihe Station. Once completed, travel time from Guangzhou South Station to Baiyun Airport will be reduced to just half an hour.
